John Warren Jr.

New York Video Editor

About Me

My name is John Warren Jr.

Born and raised in Long Island, I’ve always had a deep love for the art of film & television. As such, I would desire nothing more than to find my footing in the industry and be a part of something greater.

Starting as a freelance intern for NSTV Long Island, I’ve found work in wedding videography, promotional material for organizations, video editing commissions, and personal projects such as my animated pilot “Schmuck For Hire”.

I currently work under Altice as a freelance videographer for News 12 Long Island. It entails recording & reporting on news stories in real-time and putting together cohesive packages for television under tight deadlines.

I would love nothing more than to get into the entertainment industry as a post-production editor. I am friendly, professional, dedicated, and easy to work with!

Experiences

News 12 Videography & Editing

Videographer/Video Editor

Whether it’s recording VO footage on my own or collaborating with a reporter to shoot and edit a package, being a News 12 Videographer entails driving to various stories in the Long Island area and covering stories for TV! A day involves utilizing a keen eye to capture necessary elements for a package. I film what is needed, and then following along with the reporter’s script & track, I edit the footage into cohesive packages for television that same day. This culminates in a live package for sometimes multiple shows a day.

Schmuck For Hire - Animated Pilot (Short Film)

Creator, Director, Animator, Editor, Writer, Voice Actor

Schmuck For Hire is a pilot I made following a 20 something year old videographer and his struggles to not only find a job, but do it well. With the help of his roommate, Tween, and his childhood friend, Blugo, they get up to all sorts of weird shenanigans in the entertainment industry. Schmuck and his friends will learn that the world they live in is filled with mystery, comedy, and hilarity.

Cowabunga Pals - Duty Calls (Short Film)

Writer, Animator, Voice Actor

I made Cowabunga Pals over the spring semester in Junior year. It is a very crude parody of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but it is also my first real 100% all drawn cartoon. Typically I make my content with a live action backdrop, but here, all drawn! This was for my PTV internship at the time, and I think it shows an increase in typical quality from me. The first cartoon I made to have true lip syncing through and through. I’m proud of it, once you look past how gross it can be.

Feeding Westchester (Promo)

Assistant Videographer/Video Editor

I had the privilege of collaborating with Holstworld Media on a meaningful project for Feeding Westchester, a local food pantry. My responsibilities encompassed filming, editing, layout design, organizational tasks, and sound mixing. This experience was not only professionally enriching, but it was also personally rewarding, as it provided me with valuable insights and skills and rewarding work!

The Goober Podcast (Weekly Podcast)

Lead Editor

The Goober Podcast was a weekly show for which I managed all aspects of production. I was responsible for creating every graphic, editing each episode, and designing all associated artwork. This role provided a highly enriching experience, enhancing my skills in collaboration and communication. Additionally, I had the opportunity to participate in an episode as a guest, chatting about with the host! (Additionally, as the sole editor, I also contributed by adding some lighthearted humor throughout the episodes in little gags I would edit in.) It was a super enjoyable experience all around!

Blue Guy (Short Film)

Creator, Director, Animator, Editor, Writer, Voice Actor

Blue Guy is the first ever short film I had made. It was 2021 and the final project in a Video Art college course was just assigned to us. I wanted to challenge myself to make something I had never made before, so I made Blue Guy! I think my skills have come a long way from then, but I like to look back at this as a stepping stone for my work!

NSTV Long Island (Video Intern Work)

Summer Videography & Editing Intern

My foray into the entertainment industry was NSTV Long Island, where I had the opportunity to work on one of my earliest projects, attached here. My responsibilities included recording all footage for the Memorial Day Parade in Manhasset. Additionally, I conducted interviews with various esteemed figures from Nassau County who attended the parade. This role allowed me to utilize and refine my interpersonal skills, as I engaged with interviewees and filmed their communication with the NSTV audience. This experience served as an excellent introduction to the field of freelance videography.

in Your name, i sin - Sabir (Music Video)

Storyboard artist, scriptwriter, cinematographer

This special project follows the lyrical and spiritual journey of a first-generation Indian immigrant illustrating his struggles in America. It was a massive undertaking, one that I was happy to be a part of! The music video covers the entire album and was a massive group effort on all fronts. I had the privilege of working with Viren personally on storyboarding the sequences involving dancers and their positioning!

Philosophy

I believe in a positive work environment and all that comes with making such happen! If this means picking up slack where someone might need a hand, I am always more than happy to give that hand. I see the crucial importance in entering work with a smile and being friendly to those around you. If my team is happy, I not only find myself happier, but I find the project’s results to be more promising. A producer I networked with once told me a valuable piece of advice that I live by. People would rather work with someone imperfect who is easy to work with, rather than someone perfect, yet difficult to work with. I care for those around me and while my work does shine strong, my biggest strength is my heart & communication.
